As a photographer, I have a need for furniture. I create tons of photo shoots based on furniture items from antique sofas to stools and beautiful lounge chairs. Furniture is an expensive purchase, so I have had to learn how to find the items I need at a lower cost. Below are a few of my tips for finding furniture at a discount. These tips can be used by fellow photographers or by anyone looking to furnish a room in the home.
One of my favorite options for shopping for furniture is at thrift or antique stores, sometimes being one in the same. These stores will have items that are unique and usually not too pricy. I only visit antique stores that offer good deals, not the higher end stores. This way, I can search in the piles of furniture for items that I can either paint or use as is. I love the look of old furniture and it works wonders for my business. I can use chairs, tables and even shelving to create a unique look during a photo shoot.
Another option for furniture shopping is at discount warehouses. In my town, we have several shops that offer furniture at a discount. I try to check in regularly to see if they have any unique pieces. I have become friends with several of the employees who will alert me if a piece comes in that I might could use for my photography sessions.
From Facebook groups to Craigslist, you can find groups online that will help you to find furniture pieces at low prices. These can be auction groups or straight up sales sites that allow you to shop from home. Join local groups on Facebook to be able to see new posts as they are added. This way, if you see a furniture piece you like, you are able to bid or purchase the item straight away.
On Craigslist, you need to use certain categories to find what you are looking for. I like to check the Antique, Free Furniture or Furniture categories to be able to save on furniture pieces. Check these categories at least once a week to be able to find the best deals first. I check these categories often so that I can find furniture pieces for quite a steal, sometimes under $20!
Think locally to be able to determine the best way for you to be able to save money on your furniture purchases. With a little planning and know-how, you will find the furniture you need at a price you can afford.
